Trusted with €30 for 72 Hours
Berlin, Germany · 72-hour challenge, June 2021 · June 2021
The most compelling proof of the model is also the smallest: one young man, €30, and 72 hours.
Context
In June 2021, the YES Founders Foundation ran a 72-hour Changemaking Challenge in Berlin. Among the participants was Ansfati M’Madi. The format was simple: a fixed window, a small trust-based investment, and a single question. What can you make happen?
The Act of Trust
Ansfati was offered a €30 trust-based investment to start something within 72 hours. No business plan, no approval process. Just the money, and the trust that he would do something real with it.
The Proof
He never needed the €30. Working on the street, first selling photo shoots, then adding sketches, text correction, and cheap graphic design, Ansfati generated €131 in revenue and €127.30 in profit, serving five customers, in a window that bad weather cut to roughly two working days. The stake went untouched: €0 of the €30 was used.
A Story
There is no team to average here and no cohort to aggregate. There is just one young person who, given a little trust and almost no capital, built a tiny business out of nothing in three days.
What It Means for Institutions & Funders
Berlin shows the mechanic is neither country-specific nor budget-dependent. The same act of trust that produced 155 businesses in Zimbabwe produced one in Berlin over a weekend. For an institution, the lesson is that the barrier is rarely money. It is permission. Remove it, and young people act.
Could your institution do this?
See where you stand on the five conditions that let young people act. It takes about three minutes.
